At Achterfontein Estate we believe in protecting nature and securing a rich heritage for future generations. Over 95% of the farm is untouched and still in its natural state. Our farming practices are aimed at ensuring the sustainable production of Rooibos tea. Carbon emmitions are kept to a minimum and we make use of solar and wind power for generating electricity and pumping water. We are part of the pilot group of Rooibos tea producers participating in the Rooibos Biodiversity Initiative were the aim is to develop a set of guidelines for producing Rooibos tea in a eco-sensitive way protecting the natural areas on and around Rooibos farms. We have also conformed to SAGAP (South African Good Agricultural Practices) regulations since 2006. |
